Adeleye Joy Kasali, affectionately known in football circles as “Okada,” has successfully transitioned from an active playing career to the tactical side of the game after graduating from the prestigious National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Lagos, Nigeria, with an Advanced Certificate in Football Coaching.
Before hanging up her boots, Kasali enjoyed a rich and diverse playing career across West Africa. In Nigeria, she showcased her leadership on the pitch as the captain of the defunct Yaba Queens of Lagos and also featured prominently for Omidiran Babes of Osogbo. However, she spent the majority of her playing days in the Republic of Benin. Her stellar performances for several top clubs across the border ultimately earned her the honor of representing the country, cementing her status as a Benin Republic ex-international.
Reflecting on this new chapter in her football journey, the newly certified coach expressed immense pride in backing up her years of on-pitch experience with formal tactical education.
“It started like a child’s play when I took the bold decision to enrol at the NIS,” Kasali shared. “I am excited that I can venture into the football world now that I have undergone formal education in football coaching, aside from the fact that I played the game.”
To mark the milestone, Kasali extended her heartfelt gratitude to her family members, friends, and former colleagues, noting that their unwavering support and encouragement made her rigorous academic journey and transition into coaching a seamless and successful experience. As she steps into the dugout, the wealth of experience she gathered as a player and captain is expected to serve as a strong foundation for her managerial career.
