Bendel Insurance FC delivered a commanding performance on Sunday, sweeping aside Kun Khalifat FC with a thrilling 4–2 victory at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City to continue their strong start to the 2026/27 Euromatch NPFL campaign.
Bouncing back emphatically from their previous defeat to Nasarawa United in Lafia, the Benin Arsenal wasted no time imposing their will on the visitors. Alex Oweiyalefa opened the floodgates with a precision header just five minutes into the game, setting the tone for the afternoon. Suraju Lawal quickly followed up, doubling the advantage in the 19th minute to give the hosts a comfortable 2–0 lead heading into the break.
The second half began just as fiercely, with Chinedu Nwosu finding the back of the net in the 46th minute, mere seconds after the restart. While Kun Khalifat missed an initial penalty, they managed to convert a second spot-kick to pull a goal back. However, Nwosu quickly stifled any hopes of a comeback, completing his brace in the 66th minute to restore Insurance’s three-goal cushion. A late consolation goal from the visitors did little to dampen the wild celebrations of the home fans.
Following the victory, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, commended the team’s dominant display. Speaking through his Media Aide, Edoko Wilson Edoko, the Chairman described the win as a “powerful statement of intent.”
Enabulele praised the technical crew, led by Coach Kennedy Boboye, as well as the players for their attacking flair and resilience—reserving special praise for goalscorers Oweiyalefa, Lawal, and Nwosu. He noted that the squad’s performance is a clear reflection of their growing confidence and the renewed ambition to reestablish Bendel Insurance among the elite clubs of Nigerian football.

Enabulele made this declaration while urging the team to maintain their discipline, focus, and consistency throughout the grueling NPFL season. He also called on fans to continue packing the stadium to support the team during home fixtures.
With this crucial win, Bendel Insurance has climbed to third place on the NPFL table with six points from three matches, trailing only Doma United and Barau FC as they keep their title aspirations firmly on track.
