The Federal Government has selected Babcock University as the exclusive private institution among four tertiary institutions designated to pilot the historic National Sports and Education Excellence Programme (NSEEP).
The landmark initiative—jointly developed by the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Sports Commission (NSC)—is scheduled to commence in November 2026. It is strategically engineered to harmonize high-performance sports training with world-class academic education.
Under the programme, student-athletes will be provided with structured dual-career pathways, enabling them to pursue professional academic qualifications while simultaneously competing at the highest levels of elite sport.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Babcock University campus, the Special Adviser to the Minister of Education on Digital Communications and e-Learning, Mrs. Mojoyin Adebayo, emphasized that the initiative addresses a long-standing void in athlete development by guaranteeing life and career security beyond competitive sports.
She noted that NSEEP is purposefully designed to ensure that Nigerian athletes acquire valuable educational qualifications, equipping them with sustainable career options once their active sporting days come to an end.
