The Chairman of Anambra Football Association, Chikelue Iloenyosi has condemned the attack on the Referees that handled the Edel FC and Giant Brillars in a Nigeria National League (NNL) tie at the Awka City Stadium on Sunday.

Referee Charwal Wilfred from Delta state had his head broken and in a pool of blood, his assistants Asoluku Ihuoma from Imo State Referees Council and Uhuegbu Femi of Delta state Council had various degrees of injury.
Iloenyosi in a statement made available to the media said violence in Football is totally unacceptable no matter how well or bad officiating may have been in a game.

“Football is all about friendship and not violence. As the football governing body in Anambra, we condemn what happened in the NNL game between Edel FC and Giant Brillars.
“We would do everything possible to avoid a repeat of it. Fans should not resort to violence no matter how aggrieved they may be,” Iloenyosi said.
It would be noted that the Edel FC and Giant Brillars derby ended in violence with the centre referee and his assistants being battered.
