The Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) has expanded the teams in the elite league from 14 teams to 16 teams.
In a communique signed by the NWFL director of communications Sam Ahmadu the NWFL with the approval of the AGA expanded the NWFL Premiership to 16 from 14 teams.

The Congress confirmed the promotion of Dannaz Queens, Lakeside Queens the original two teams that earned their promotion on the pitch of play last season. The other unmerited board room promotion went to Sunshine Queens and Ekiti Queens.

Following this development on Thursday, their were outcry from Women Football stakeholders, Club officials and the media.
A well known sports medicine Physician had this to say
” What happened at the NWFL AGM where teams that didn’t qualify for promotion on the pitch via exant rules qualified via the board room would never have happened under Aisha Falode’ leadership.
It would simply never have happened. It doesn’t matter who.
They tried it with her and failed and happily did it the moment she was out of office, even though she is indeed in a higher political role as a board member with the Nigeria Football Federation “.
