After recording a 5-0 win over Bright Future in the quarter-final of the 2021 Aiteo Cup, Rivers Angels were paid back in their coin as Bayelsa Queens thrashed the 2021 NWFL Premiership Champions 5-0 in the semi-final on Sunday, July 18, 2021.
Four goals in the first half from Efih Peace (2), Anjor Mary, and Juliet Sunday set the pace for Bayelsa Queens’ big win.
Juliet Sunday scored the fifth goal of the game in the 48th minute to take the game out of Rivers Angels’ reach.
Bayelsa Queens goalkeeper, Sandra Chichi saved Maryan Ezenagu’s penalty in the 60th minute to keep her clean sheet.
After consecutive defeats to Rivers Angels in their last two competitive games (1-0 during the regular season and 4-0 during the Super Six), Bayelsa Queens earned their revenge and set up a final meeting with either Edo Queens or FC Robo Queens.
The defeat was Rivers Angels’ heaviest since inception as the Port Harcourt-based side will now focus on their trip to Cote d’Ivoire for the WAFU-B Zonal Qualifiers of CAF Women’s Champions League.
