The vibrant city of Benin came alive with excitement, laughter, and inspiration as the second edition of the Aisha Falode “Girls Play Forward” initiative successfully held as part of activities marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.

Founded by respected sports administrator and women’s football advocate Aisha Falode, the initiative once again delivered a memorable platform where young girls were empowered through football, mentorship, friendship, and life-changing interactions.

The atmosphere at the event reflected the core message behind the programme — that every girl deserves the opportunity to dream, play, grow, and be seen. From football sessions to interactive bonding activities, the event created a safe and encouraging environment where participants expressed themselves freely while learning important values of discipline, resilience, teamwork, leadership, and courage.

Several sports personalities graced the occasion in support of the initiative’s mission to shape the next generation of female leaders through sport. Among those present were Edo State Football Association Chairman, Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, Media Aide on Strategic Communication to the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Oluchi Tobex Tobe-Chukwu, and Madam Sabina, the Director Sports Development Edo Sports Commission, all of whom shared inspiring and memorable moments with the girls.

The event also received a major boost with the presence of former Edo State Governor, Lucky Igbinedion, whose attendance further highlighted the growing recognition and importance of initiatives focused on girl-child empowerment and grassroots sports development.

His presence added colour and excitement to the celebration as the girls enjoyed a truly unforgettable Children’s Day experience filled with football, learning, mentorship, and inspiration.

Speaking through the spirit of the initiative, organisers reiterated that “Girls Play Forward” is not just about football, but about building confidence, creating opportunities, and helping young girls believe in their abilities beyond societal limitations.

Over the years, Aisha Falode has remained one of the strongest voices for the advancement of women’s football in Nigeria and across Africa through her contributions in sports broadcasting, administration, and advocacy. As a member of the Nigeria Football Federation Board and Head of the Women’s Football Committee, her continued investment in grassroots development is steadily creating pathways for young girls to dream bigger.

Beyond the football pitch, the “Girls Play Forward” initiative continues to stand out as a powerful movement promoting inclusion, friendship, self-belief, and social impact — proving once again that sport remains one of the strongest tools for transforming lives and inspiring brighter futures.
