Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI), the lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District and the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for Ogun State, has officially endorsed the 2026 Abeokuta 10KM Race, assuring organizers of his personal attendance at the highly anticipated event scheduled for October 3.
The Senator made this commitment during a courtesy visit from Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, the Managing Director of Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML). During the meeting, Mrs. Olopade formally presented an official running kit to the Senator and invited him to the race, which is being held in his honor to celebrate his immense contributions to youth and sports development across Ogun State.
Senator Adeola warmly received the NSML delegation and commended Mrs. Olopade for her dynamic leadership since taking the helm of the foremost sports management company, expressing great delight at the firm’s continued progress under her watch.
“Let me start by thanking you for taking up the mantle of leadership of the company. I was truly delighted when I learnt that you are the one in charge,” the Senator remarked. “As for the race, I want to sincerely thank you for organizing it in my honor. You have honored me, and I appreciate the gesture with every sense of responsibility. I will do everything humanly possible to be part of it, especially because it is a race held in my honor. I will also be glad to be there to honor you in return.”
Speaking on the rationale behind dedicating the event to the lawmaker, Mrs. Olopade noted his long-standing commitment to grassroots empowerment. “For everything you have done for youth and sports development, we have come to invite you to support the race. Of course, we also humbly request your presence on the 3rd of October,” she stated.
The fifth edition of the Abeokuta 10KM Race has been exclusively designed for Nigerian athletes, underscoring the organizers’ commitment to promoting homegrown talent and creating a lasting sporting legacy within the country.
Registration for the marathon is currently ongoing at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Kuto, Abeokuta. Registered runners are scheduled to collect their official race kits between September 30 and October 2, just ahead of race day.
As a premier fixture on the Nigerian athletics calendar, the Abeokuta 10KM Race is expected to draw a massive convergence of elite homegrown athletes, sports enthusiasts, and key stakeholders to the Ogun State capital for a thrilling showcase of endurance and talent.
