NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko confirmed the upgraded welfare package, noting that the new incentives were finalized following a strategic meeting with the Director General and a recent visit to the team’s camp in Aberdeen. The revised structure replaces the initial $8,000 gold medal payout, ensuring athletes receive maximum financial encouragement on the global stage.
Revised Medal Reward Structure**
- Gold Medal: $10,000 Total ($5,000 instant cash reward + $5,000 direct account deposit)
- Silver Medal: $5,000 Total ($2,000 instant cash reward + $3,000 direct account deposit)
- Bronze Medal: $3,000 Total ($1,000 instant cash reward + $2,000 direct account deposit)
Chairman Dikko confirmed that the new bonus structure has already been implemented. All three gold medalists from yesterday’s events have received their full $10,000 reward, correcting earlier external reports of an $8,000 payout. Similarly, the two athletes who clinched gold today, alongside the recent silver medalists, have already been presented with their respective instant cash rewards.
The technical team is also directly benefiting from the enhanced package. Coaches will receive a $5,000 bonus for every athlete they guide to a gold medal. Furthermore, standardized daily allowances have been set at $200 for athletes and $250 for coaches throughout the duration of the Games.
Special Performance Incentives
Beyond the structured medals table, the NSC has made provisions for discretionary bonuses under special competitive circumstances. Dikko highlighted an on-the-spot cash incentive awarded to Rilwan Idris yesterday, which successfully motivated the athlete to push past a potential bronze finish and secure the heavyweight gold medal.
