— The countdown to Nigeria’s biggest multi-sport fiesta has officially begun. On Friday, the National Sports Commission (NSC), in collaboration with the Local and Main Organising Committees (LOC and MOC), unveiled the official mascot for the November 2026 National Sports Festival in Enugu State.
The grand unveiling ceremony took place at the Enugu State International Conference Centre, following a comprehensive inspection of key sporting and hospitality facilities across the Coal City state.
A Symbol of Strength: Meet ‘Odumeze’
Representing His Excellency, Governor Dr. Peter Mbah, the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, proudly revealed the mascot named ‘Odumeze’.
Translating to Boldness, Strength, and Power, the mascot was chosen to perfectly encapsulate both the fierce competitive spirit of the upcoming Games and the rich, resilient identity of the Enugu people.
“Enugu and its people are ready to host the festival,” Barr. Ossai declared, reaffirming the state government’s unwavering commitment to delivering a world-class sporting spectacle.
The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, was on ground to witness the activation and praised the state’s remarkable pace of preparation. He emphasized that the mascot unveiling is a critical step in building nationwide excitement for the festival.
“I am excited for games of this nature. We need this activation for the Games to resonate all over the country and especially all over Enugu State,” Hon. Olopade stated. “We had a very brief event and it’s amazing. I am very proud to be associated with ‘Odumeze’.”
He commended the Enugu State Government and the LOC, assuring them that the NSC will continue working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the November Games meet and exceed international standards.
Also speaking at the event, the Enugu State Commissioner for Sports, Barr. Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu, expressed deep appreciation to the dignitaries and partners supporting the hosting process.
He assured the sporting community that the state has studied previous editions of the festival and is laser-focused on delivering impeccable facilities, top-tier athlete welfare, rock-solid security, and premium hospitality.
“The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has been working seriously to ensure that Enugu State hosts a very memorable Festival. We want to appreciate the dignitaries who stayed to ensure that we are able to host this festival successfully to international standards,” the Commissioner noted.
With ‘Odumeze now officially introduced to the public, preparations across all venues, medical, transport, and accommodation sectors are firmly on track. The NSC is calling on athletes, state sports councils, corporate partners, and all Nigerians to rally behind the new mascot as the ultimate face of unity, strength, and sporting excellence ahead of November.
