As the countdown to the highly anticipated Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games narrows down to a matter of days, the National Sports Commission (NSC) is calling on the nation to unite in solidarity behind its athletes. Mr. Ebidowei Oweifie, the Special Assistant (Special Duties) to the Director General of the NSC, has passionately urged Nigerians to keep Team Nigeria in their prayers as the contingent wraps up its rigorous high-performance training camp in Aberdeen.

Speaking exclusively to FAKS MEDIA ahead of the team’s imminent departure to the Games Village in Glasgow, the soft-spoken sports administrator expressed supreme confidence in the squad’s physical and tactical readiness. He noted that the vast majority of Team Nigeria’s athletes have hit peak form, benefiting immensely from the world-class facilities and intensive conditioning provided during the Aberdeen tour.
However, Oweifie emphasized that while elite preparation is the absolute foundation of sporting excellence, the unpredictable nature of global tournaments often requires an extra layer of grace.

“In sports, after all the physical and tactical preparations have been made, what you ultimately need is God,” Oweifie stated. “I strongly urge Nigerians everywhere to pray for our athletes to have a hitch-free championship, free of injuries and full of breakthroughs.”
The Special Assistant also took a moment to commend the proactive leadership of the National Sports Commission. Reflecting on the unprecedented welfare packages, early camping initiatives, and premium logistical support deployed by the Commission, Oweifie highlighted that the administrative hurdles that previously distracted national teams have been entirely dismantled.
“The National Sports Commission has done absolutely everything necessary to put the athletes in the perfect competition mood and psychological state,” Oweifie added. “The foundation has been laid. It is now left for the athletes to step onto the big stage, give their absolute best, and put smiles on the faces of the millions of Nigerians who will be watching and passionately supporting them from back home.”
Team Nigeria is scheduled to officially depart the Aberdeen camp for Glasgow this weekend, transitioning from the preparation phase to the main battlefield as the quest for Commonwealth gold officially begins.
