BENIN CITY, EDO STATE — The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has congratulated Team Edo squash players, Samson Asade and Ese Oghene, following their impressive performances at the 20th Annual Merchants Express Global Cargo and Turkish Cargo Airlines Squash Tournament in Lagos.
Asade emerged as the champion in the senior category to claim the gold medal, while his Edo teammate, Oghene, secured the bronze medal at the tournament held at the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja, from August 3 to August 8, 2026.
The competition, organized by the Squash Section of the Lagos Country Club, attracted some of the highest-ranking squash players from across the country.
Reacting to the successful outing, Enabulele described the performances as a clear indication of the growing strength and development of squash in Edo State.
In an official statement issued by his Media Aide, Edoko Wilson Edoko, the Sports Commission Chairman praised the athletes for their high level of discipline and determination. He particularly commended Asade for dominating the senior category and lauded Oghene for fighting hard to secure a podium finish.
“On behalf of the Edo State Sports Commission, I warmly congratulate Samson Asade on his outstanding gold medal performance and Ese Oghene on his well-deserved bronze medal,” Enabulele stated.
“These achievements are a source of pride to Edo State and further confirm the wealth of sporting talent we have in our state. I commend both athletes and their coaches for their hard work, discipline, and determination. Their performances have once again demonstrated that with the right preparation, commitment, and support, Edo athletes can compete successfully and excel at the highest level.”
The Chairman concluded by assuring athletes across the state of the continued support of the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration, emphasizing the government’s commitment to creating the right environment for sports talents to develop and compete successfully at both national and international competitions.
