Participants of the IOC – NOC Gender inclusive governance course who rounded up the sports administrator course for women on Thursday in Abuja have lauded the organisers for the timely and strategic course in uplifting and changing the face of administrating Sports in Nigeria.
The course covered important subjects from leadership principles, crisis management, communication, travel logistics, and bidding for hosting rights to athletes’ welfare.
The resources persons were well qualified and gave living examples of all what was taught.
The president of the Nigerian Olympic Committee Ahmed Gumel was also on ground to declare the course open and also during the closing ceremony to personally hand over the various certificates to the Participants.
Air Cdr Rahinatu Garba Rtd , a board member of the Shooting Federation of Nigeria who also once played handball , basketball, and badminton, hailed the initiative
” As a sports administrator, I am better informed on so many things after attending this important sports administrator course by the IOC for only women.
It has broadened my knowledge, especially on the principle of leadership of the Olympic Movement.
The athletes are the heart of the Olympic Movement. Without them, there would be no victories , no actions , no stories, and no organisation. “
She further explained how she was better informed on promoting values , management of organisation within our provy, and how to manage resources within our level.
” The course was expository, and we had the opportunity to interact and give examples on how to tackle issues.
I must commend the IOC , the NOC, and everyone who had made this course possible, especially for the fact that it made way for only women. “
Edith Anum Oku is an ex International handball player, now a referee and a coach.She was very impressed with the turnout of women and the quality of the course.
” The course covered a lot of areas, especially logistics, timeliness , athletes registration for tournament, cultural exchange and the core aspect which is athletes welfare.
The goal is to learn, understand how this things are done internationally, and implement them at your own level.” She concluded.
The Sports administrator course for former women athletes and sports administrators, an initiative of the International Olympic Committee, was a first in Nigeria and had over 40 women as participants.
