Enekwechi Makes Quick Work in the Shot Put :
Leading the morning charge was Nigeria’s premier shot putter, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi : The reigning Commonwealth and African champion underlined his status as a heavy gold-medal favorite, needing just a single attempt to punch his ticket to the final.
Enekwechi comfortably bypassed the automatic qualification mark, launching an effortless opening throw of 20.03 meters before casually packing up his gear to rest for the main event.

Making her Commonwealth Games debut, Jennifer Obi Chukwuka announced herself in spectacular fashion. She stormed to victory in her heat, clocking a brand-new personal best of 23.26 seconds (+1.4m/s) to comfortably finish ahead of Canada’s Marie-Eloise Leclair (23.50s) and secure automatic qualification.
Joining her in the women’s semi-finals is Olayinka Olajide, who safely progressed after finishing third in a highly competitive heat with a time of 23.62 seconds.
In the men’s 200m, Udodi Onwuzurike delivered one of the standout performances of the morning. Powering through a +2.4m/s tailwind, Onwuzurike commanded Heat Five to take the victory in a blistering 20.31 seconds, leaving the rest of the field trailing in his wake.
The only slight dampener of the morning session was the exit of Alaba Akintola, who started his heat strongly but ultimately placed third in 20.96 seconds, falling just short of semi-final progression.
