Imo State Basketball Association Chairman, Kelechi Anosike said that the association in the zone dissociates it’s self from the Hon. Sunday Dare led Ministry of Youth and Sports Under 18 Basketball Championship.
He made this known to the Imo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Hon Dan Ogu when he led the victorious Imo Basketball team to his office in Owerri.
“In our last meeting we decided that we are not part of Federal Ministry U18 Basketball Championship in the zone because the proper way would have been to build structure first,Let them build basketball courts in each Senitorial zone to enhance grassroot development of the game.
“We took the stand to distance ourselves from anything related to the ministry following the ban of International basketball activities by the Ministry.
“On that note South-East decided that we are not part of U18. They wanted to use Enugu which have also rejected offer.
“The ban really hurt so much because majority that made up the team are from South-East and these players took us much to build them up.
“We In Imo State and South-East in general, we don’t want to partake in anything from Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports.” He said
